The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an exceptionally talented, motivated, and creative Defect Metrology Engineer position located at our Linthicum, MD facility.
Th Advanced Technology Lab (ATL), part of Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC), located outside of Baltimore, Maryland – where we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs. Northrop Grumman’s ATL semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, and Silicon Carbide) and providing leading-edge technology development in Superconducting Electronics and SLCFET. Our devices enable a number of Northrop Grumman’s ground-based radars, avionic radars, and space systems. The Defect Metrology Engineer should possess some knowledge of defect metrology, defect detection techniques and practices. The selected candidate should have an aptitude for data analysis, technology development and demonstrate an ability to communicate well with others and work equally well independently and as part of a team.
The Defect Metrology Engineer will be responsible for but not limited to:
Maintaining, existing, and developing new in-line defect metrology recipes and techniques for defect inspection and review tools. Assisting with ongoing efforts to integrate in-line defect metrology into our process flows. Writing and maintaining process documentation. Partner with vendors and equipment engineers to drive existing and future tools to meet foundry and program needs. Supporting statistical process control (SPC), continuous improvement efforts, and the management and dissemination of metrology data

This job may be filled as a Principal Defect Metrology Engineer or Senior Principal Defect Metrology Engineer based on the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Defect Metrology Engineer:
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or other related technical discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience (3 year with MS and 0 with PhD)
General understanding of defect inspection and review tools (such as dark field, bright field, and scanning electron microscopes)
Basic knowledge of statistical process control
Hands on experience with Si, GaAs, or other wafers
1 year experience with semiconductor fabrication
Ability to work in a cleanroom sting
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
US citizenship required
Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Defect Metrology Engineer:
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or other related technical discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience (7 years with Masters and 4 with PhD)
General understanding of defect inspection and review tools (such as dark field, bright field, and scanning electron microscopes)
Basic knowledge of statistical process control
Hands on experience with Si, GaAs, or other wafers
1 year experience with semiconductor fabrication
Ability to work in a cleanroom setting
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
US citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands on knowledge and operation of defect inspection and review tools (such as dark field, bright field, and scanning electron microscopes)
Experience in lean manufacturing practices and structured problem-solving methodology
Experience working in a cleanroom setting
Data analysis and visualization (JMP)
Experience utilizing KLA, Advanced Materials (AMAT) equipment
Experience with coordinating with vendors
Experience developing technical specifications for equipment procurement
Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance #NGMCFab
Salary Range: $102,400.00 – $153,600.00Salary Range 2: $127,000.00 – $190,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
