SSSD has an opening for a System Safety Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals, and this position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.
This requisition can be filled at a level 3 Principal Systems Engineer or a level 4 Sr. Principal Systems Engineer. Additionally, this position is contingent upon capturing program award, acquiring customer funding, and obtaining and maintaining the minimum final clearance(s) prior to start date.
The candidate will be expected to support tasks involving System Safety which may include:
– Reviews product designs, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems.
– Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
– Develops safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements.
– Participates in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions.
– Evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost effective program.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer:
– Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 5+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience OR
– Master’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 3+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience OR
– PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 1+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience
– Candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Govt. DoD Secret Clearance prior to start date.
– System Engineering background with System Safety experience
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:
– Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 8+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience OR
– Master’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 6+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience OR
– PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 4+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience
– Candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Govt. DoD Secret Clearance prior to start date.
– System Engineering background with System Safety experience
Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience performing Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Test Hazard Analyses (THA), and support incorporating updates into the existing Hazard Tracking System (HTS) records and Safety Analysis Report (SAR)
– Experience performing Software Safety Hazard Analysis
– Experience developing a System Safety Program Plan
– Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E, AFI 91-202
– Familiarity with OSHA Standards
– Experience working on Space or Laser programs
– Experience leading a System Safety team/effort
– Experience with DoD safety programs highly desired
– Experience performing System Safety across all phases of a program
– Experience performing Safety on the floor during Integration and Test, Assembly, and moving of hardware
– Ability to apply extensive technical expertise in System Safety, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines
– Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) and clearly present technical approaches and findings
– Ability to develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
– Ability to work independently, without appreciable direction
– Ability to guide the successful completion of major programs
– Active US Govt. DoD Top Secret clearance and/or active SCI access at time of application

Salary Range: $107,300.00 – $160,900.00Salary Range 2: $133,000.00 – $199,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
