Job Overview & Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Engineer 3 that aligns with ULA’s Production Operations Team, responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Researches, designs and develops instruments, automation controls, engines, machines, mechanisms, hydraulics, heat transfer, cryogenic and ordnance components and systems that are used in the transmission, measurement and use of energy.
- Application of mechanical engineering principles to the planning, design, development and testing of mechanical systems and tools needed for testing and/or build applications. Consideration of such factors as accessibility, mobility, and performance requirements play a factory in the design.
- Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling. Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
- Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
- Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
- May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
- Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action or problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
- Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.
- Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
- Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
Required Education
Bachelor
Required Years of Experience
Minimum of 4 years of related work experience
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university
- Experience in Production Builds of aerospace hardware
- Training or experience in SAP, or a similar ERP system
- Experience creating work instructions from Blueprints, drawings and instructions
- Knowledge of reading Blueprints
- Experience and understanding of Geometrical, Dimensioning, and Tolerancing
- Experience working in an Assembly shop
- Experience and understanding of Model Based Engineering
- Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends along with off shifts, as necessary to support testing and production delivery activities
- Experience working with a high degree of autonomy while on the off shift
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with an interdisciplinary team that includes aerospace technicians and inspectors
- Experience in TeamCenter and SAP
- Experience working with NC Programmers
