The Aerospace Corporation is hiring an Undergraduate X-ray Tomography Intern.
The Aerospace Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) is a diverse scientific organization that provides a broad and innovative research and development backplane for a growing space enterprise. PSL’s impact is grown through a diverse research portfolio that blends foundational scientific research with cutting-edge technology development to serve a broad customer base. The strength of PSL comes from the combination of cutting-edge tools and facilities, a vast repository of space-system knowledge, and the extensive technical expertise of our people. We harness these tools and expertise in over 150 different laboratories to tackle the new challenges for the space enterprise.
The qualified candidate will become part of the Microelectronic Technology Department and work in the electronic materials and devices group to support investigations of microelectronics reliability and physics of failure by x-ray tomography and other non-destructive techniques.

What You’ll Be Doing

Conducting innovative basic and applied research in non-destructive fault isolation and reverse engineering of electronic devices

Developing tools for data and image analysis
-
Collecting and interpreting x-ray tomography data

Providing responsive technical support to national security space programs on problems

Presenting results internally and at scientific meetings
-
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical personnel via oral and written forms

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:

Currently enrolled fulltime in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, aerospace engineering, computer science, or material science or related disciplines

Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a degree program full-time after completion of the internship.

Understanding of x-ray radiography and computed tomography (CT).

Experience with 3-D printing and Computer-Aided Design (CAD)

This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

Experience with Volume Graphics, Avizo, dragonfly or other tomography software packages.

Experience with metallic additive manufacturing for aerospace applications: printing abnormalities, porosity.

Knowledge of electronic device packaging and fabrication

Proficient in MATLAB, C/C++, and/or Python

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
