Job Overview & Responsibilities
As a Civil Engineering Intern at United Launch Alliance, you’ll gain hands-on experience and will have the opportunity to:
- Work directly with Engineers, Technicians and Contractors at the launch site on new and/or existing projects.
- Candidate will need to have a strong work ethic and the ability to make progress independently. Typical projects include:
- Large Structure modifications/improvements/repairs
- Planning/designing new infrastructure to address personal safety
- Permitting
- Erosion repair/mitigation
- Support one or more experienced engineers in performance of assignments, spend time shadowing operations, and have work collaborating with peers on larger efforts.
- Work a project to completion that impacts launch operations and can make a lasting improvement and valuable impact.
- This role is at the launch site (Cape Canaveral or VSFB) in the launch operations group, embedded with the Engineering & Infrastructure department.
Interns may perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which help them build a strong network within the ULA community and with fellow interns!
Required Education
- At minimum, completed Sophomore year of college or university by the time of the summer internship assignment.
- High School/GED
Basic Qualifications
Must have a minimum college GPA of 2.90 on a 4.00 scale at the time of application; cumulative, no rounding. NOTE: An unofficial transcript is required if you are invited for an interview. We recommend you upload it to your profile when you apply.
Must have a valid driver’s license and motorized vehicle transportation if assigned an internship in Alabama; California; Florida; or Pueblo, Colorado. For Denver, Colorado and Washington, DC, motorized transportation is recommended.
Role Specific Qualifications
At minimum, actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university.
Must have plans to be enrolled in classes during Fall Semester 2024.
Ability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer of 2024.
Working knowledge of basic engineering application tools.
Proficient with CAD software (AutoCAD preferred).
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
Effective presentation, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to complete an internship at any of the below ULA’s locations:
Cape Canaveral, FL
Vandenberg, CA
Summary Salary Range:
CO: $23.60 – $34.70
CA: $24.80 – $36.30
Please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon a candidate’s experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.

Additionally, most salaried ULA team members work a “9/80 schedule,” meaning they enjoy every other Friday off.
