The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a multi-mission science and flight operations center for NASA’s flagship observatories on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland.
The IT Division is seeking a Cloud Development Engineer who is experienced in scoping infrastructure for customer requirements. STScI is the science operations center for several NASA missions, including the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). STScI hosts the MAST archive that contains data from more than 20 missions. MAST will also contribute to science operations for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, including its archive, in formulation for launch in the mid-2020s.
This position can support remote work (occasional days onsite). Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market. (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV). This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Residence in order to meet ITAR requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Build, implement and support Lambda, S3, Cloud Front, CloudWatch, Identity & Access Management (IAM) security services as needed.
Skills and Qualifications: These skills are required to succeed in this role.
Proficient in infrastructure and configuration management. Knowledgeable in CloudFormation and/or Terraform. Python expertise is preferred. Other languages are expected. Extensive experience with AWS and CloudFormation. Familiarity with Kubernetes administration and development.
Must have hands-on experience and an understanding of best practices with AWS cloud services, including infrastructure, IAM, security, networking, and cost optimization.
