Job Summary
The Aerospace Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) is a diverse scientific organization that provides a broad and innovative research and development backplane for a growing space enterprise. PSL’s impact is grown through a diverse research portfolio that blends foundational scientific research with cutting-edge technology development to serve a broad customer base. PSL’s exclusive ability to work with all stakeholders: (government, industry, and academia) enables us to provide novel solutions to the most challenging issues in current and future technology applications. We harness these tools and expertise in over 150 different laboratories to tackle the new challenges for the space enterprise.
The Microelectronics Technology Department (MTD) is part of PSL with specialized laboratories used to test, accelerate, and analyze, failures in electronics used for space system. MTD is comprised of two sections: one that performs radiation effects testing and discrete microelectronics testing, while the other section performs failure analysis on microelectronics using tools that can identify anomalies from the macroscopic down to the atomic scale. As an Electrical Testing Research Associate (Research Associate III- Electrical Systems) you will design automated electrical test setups including designing test circuits that are fabricated on a printed circuit board, assemble cabling, and write software to automate multiple instruments performing the tests.
Work Model
This is a full time position based in El Segundo, CA which requires 100% onsite work.
What You’ll Be Doing
Designing printed circuit boards to support quick turnaround test setups
Support the fabrication of materials, devices, test structures and prototypes using tools including: wire bonding, die bonding, printed circuit board design, and soldering
Perform sample inspection with optical microscopes
Remove semiconductor packaging using a variety of mechanical, chemical, and thermal techniques
Perform electrical measurements on microelectronics samples that may be part of a complex circuit, individual package, or bare die
Maintain equipment capability by ensuring it is calibrated and serviced when needed
Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems
Must work well in a team environment
Must possess strong organizational skills
What You Need to be Successful– Electrical Testing Research Associate (Research Associate III- Electrical Systems)
Minimum Requirements:
Associate’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related discipline is required
A minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical engineering or related discipline is required
General knowledge of semiconductor devices and circuits
Experience working in a lab environment while following laboratory safety protocols
Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JAVA, C/C++ and/or similar
This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, material science, or related discipline is preferred
6+ years of relevant experience with Associate’s degree in a related discipline or 3 years with a Bachelor’s degree
Experience designing complex, high speed circuit boards, and sending design out to be fabricated
Experience using benchtop lab equipment such as semiconductor parameter analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, DC power supplies, switch matrix, multimeters, etc.
Experience automating lab instruments using python, LabVIEW, or other programming language
Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational needs

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
