About In-Space Missions and BAE Systems
BAE Systems acquired In-Space Missions in 2021, and the two organisations have teamed to advance our space ambition by bringing all our space activities under a new, integrated business unit and leadership team which is focused on designing, building and operating world-class space missions for global customers.
The new Space business unit now comprises about 180 staff across 3 sites at Alton, Guildford and Great Baddow. BAE Systems is committed to investing in Space to deliver new-space small satellite systems and space data products combined with the security and resilience of BAE Systems expertise in telemetry tracking and command processors, waveforms, electronics, antennas and digital signal processing and analytics.
Due to continued growth, we are now looking for an Electronics Engineer to join us on our journey to deliver innovative capabilities within the space sector.
Who are you?
As an Electronics Engineer you will have knowledge and experience of designing, developing, building and testing electronic systems.
You will show engagement, enthusiasm, and persistence and be an active team member, contributing fully to the teams you are part of. You willingly help others to solve problems or manage difficult workloads.
You anticipate problems arising and take a proactive approach in order to resolve. You actively help others solve problems beyond their skillset/knowledge and you invite and build upon other’s ideas where appropriate.
You draw on your past experiences to solve problems and are able to adapt to changing circumstances and take on board suggestions from others.
This role will require someone who takes pride in their work and and can present a professional face to clients, suppliers and partners.
We are looking for the following skills;
Educated to at least degree – level or equivalent in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
Technical delivery of complex electrical/electronic systems;
Proficient in use of appropriate technical tools (e.g. Altium, OrCAD, PSpice);
Experience in testing and test automation
Programming experience e.g. Python, Java, C/C++ (desirable)
Experience in firmware development and FPGA/ VHDL (desirable);
Technical pre-sales support during bid activity;
Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and delivering and reporting to external clients;
Experience in mentoring junior engineers (desirable)
What will you be doing here?
Your role will include working on a range of activities from technical studies, detailed design, development and test through to wider spacecraft support. You will be comfortable working as part of a team to deliver projects to a variety of customers including institutional, academic and commercial organisations.
You will work closely with our engineers and support activities in the following areas:
Design, development, prototyping, build and test of electronic devices and systems from initial requirements (technical and non-technical) through to launch and in-orbit operations;
Detailed design activities including, Schematic production; , Selection and procurement of relevant components and assemblies to support design and development activities; ECAD design either directly or managing a specialist (depending on complexity).
Definition and management of avionics subsystem/unit interfaces;
Provision of technical inputs into definition of spacecraft test and flight harnesses and required test support equipment;
Provision of relevant inputs to system level budgets and designs;
Derivation and management of technical requirements from Mission and System Level to subsystem and equipment level (with support from others where necessary);
Derivation, management and execution of Validation and Verification activities at a subsystem level and provision of inputs to these at a system level.
Collaboration with project managers to scope and plan development work and provide inputs to schedules; risk management plans; budget management and other project artefacts as required;
Technical pre-sales support to prospecting and bid activities;
Leading and providing technical inputs into technical consultancy activities such as customer support, studies and R&D projects;
