Vast is looking for a Fabrication Technician, reporting to the Manager of Structures Manufacturing, to support the development and fabrication of the Haven-1 primary structure, Vast’s first artificial-gravity human-rated space station. As a structures technician on Haven, you will work in a team-oriented environment where quick communication and effective execution are key.
This is a non-exempt position based out of our Long Beach location.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with production of the Haven Structure
- Operate sheet metal machines, Brake, Shear, 4 Bar Roller
- Prep Material for welding
- Familiar with general fabrication
- Self-starter, highly motivated working in a fast-paced department
- Regularly handle large parts in excess of 50lbs
- Use a wide variety of fabrication equipment
- Perform a wide variety of fabrication and assembly techniques, such as match drilling and insert installation, etc
- Material handling of raw goods and finished weldments
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in the aerospace or sheet metal industry
- High School Diploma or equivalency certificate
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Ability to work in a team on fast-moving projects
- Ability to read blueprints
- Ability to use precision measuring equipment to verify part to blueprint
- Experience following written and verbal instruction
- Self-starter
- Team player mentality
- Aerospace manufacturing experience
- Experience with Manufacturing Planning Systems (ie ION, manufacturo)
- MIG, TIG, & robotic welding sheet metal
- General Fabrication and simple machining experience
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs unassisted
- Ability to stand 8 hours per day
- Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed to support critical mission milestones
- Must be able to work on ladders and lifts with proper PPE
