The Northrop Grumman Deployables Operating Unit specializes in deployable systems for spacecraft components such as solar arrays, instrument booms, extendible support structures, and reflector boom antennas, deployable booms and masts. We are seeking a Materials and Process Engineering Manager 2 to support our Northrop Grumman facilities in Oxnard and Goleta CA.
This position may be based in either Oxnard, or Goleta, CA.

Overview
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Materials and Process Engineering Manager 2 is strategic member of the Deployables leadership team. They are responsible for leading the materials and process engineering and components engineering team that supports the design and fabrication of solar arrays and deployable mechanical systems on a large variety of commercial and military programs. The primary responsibility will be to provide Materials and Processes (M&P) technical guidance and direction to the engineering team in design, test, production, and maintenance phases of a project. Tasks will include recommending and supporting the selection, qualification, testing, and failure analysis of materials and processes for military and commercial space subsystems.
The Materials and Process Engineering Manager will also be responsible for the planning, standardizing, implementing and enhancing product design related to tools, processes and methods that support the value stream organization (VSO) and its objectives.
Through collaboration with engineering product team leads and other functional managers, the Engineering Manager is responsible for resource management and prioritization to provide prompt response and situational resolutions to meet all VSO goals and objectives.
Role and Responsibilities:
Accountable for meeting the Engineering safety, quality, delivery and cost expectations of internal and external customers within entire product value streams. Ensures plans are developed and executed to meet internal and external customer requirements.
Subject matter expert on Materials and Process tools, methods, and standards across value stream.
Use independent advanced knowledge and ideas to guide the development and implementation of technical solutions to highly complex problems.
Create parts, materials, and process (PMP) plans in compliance of customer technical documents (Statements of Work, Performance Specifications, Subcontractor Mission Assurance Requirements, etc.)
Participate in anomaly resolution by supporting Failure Review Boards (FRB) and providing non-conformance and failure analysis assessments and support Preventative & Corrective Action Board (PCAB) activities
Create, maintain and improve standards for all engineering drawings, specifications and design for manufacturability, Review and approve analysis and drawings
Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers.
Fosters engineering employee development through mentoring and coaching
Monitor Program execution and support of SDRL and SOW deliverables, including PDR, CDR, TRR technical compliance
Develop Materials and Process test plan and coordination with design group, manufacturing engineer, and test engineers
Review and provide assessment for proposal BOE.
Collaborate and coordinate with Master Scheduling, Product Value Stream Managers and Business Support Functions (Program Managers, Finance, Contracts, HR, etc.), including proposal support, to achieve product and site goals via sharing of resources, tools, equipment, processes, etc.
Establish and maintain metrics that provide real-time visibility to measure, monitor, and control process performance, including key in‐puts, outputs, and early warning event triggers.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of 9 years of Materials and Processes (M&P) Engineering experience; OR 7 years’ experience with a master’s degree. An additional four years’ experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
5+ years leadership experience in a management role or as a technical lead
Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with senior leadership on a technical level
Ability to provide technical guidance and direction through all phases of a program
Familiarity with common manufacturing processes, chemical coatings, and metal surface treatments
Understanding of materials, material processes, and technical challenges
Ability to travel between the Oxnard, CA and Goleta, CA sites and travel to support direct reports and customers.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
US Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or similar discipline
Proven track record in managing direct reports across multiple engineering disciplines to reach common goals and objectives
Experience in performing FMECA, criticality analysis, and reliability analysis
Active Secret clearance
Salary Range: $138,100.00 – $207,100.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
