As a mechanical engineer, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and integration of mechanical components and assemblies in a high-thrust rocket engine. You will ensure these components meet performance, reliability, and safety standards in extreme operating environments. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that your mechanical solutions align with the propulsion system’s objectives.
Design and development: develop and optimize critical mechanical components such as housings, supports, and assemblies, ensuring compatibility with high-thrust performance requirements. Focus on optimizing weight, strength, and thermal resilience.
Structural analysis: perform finite element analysis (FEA) for mechanical stress, strain, and thermal effects on materials, ensuring components meet safety margins. Account for operational stresses, thermal gradients, and vibration.
Prototyping and testing: coordinate with fabrication teams to produce prototypes, and participate in testing to validate mechanical performance. Analyze test data to identify issues and implement design improvements.
Documentation and compliance: develop technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, and test results. Ensure designs comply with aerospace standards and safety requirements.
Education : engineering degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
Technical skills:
– Experience in mechanical design for high-stress, high-temperature applications, ideally in aerospace or propulsion.
– Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., Siemens NX, CATIA) and FEA tools (e.g., Simcenter, ANSYS, Abaqus) for structural and thermal analysis.
– Understanding of high-temperature materials, coatings, and treatments for durability under intense conditions.
– Familiarity with precision manufacturing techniques and quality control for aerospace components.
– Knowledge of testing methods and data analysis for high-stress environments, including vibration, thermal, and stress testing.
Behavioral skills:
– Attention to detail and an analytical mindset for accurate problem-solving and design validation.
– Strong communication and teamwork skills, with an ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary setting.
– Adaptability and resilience, with the capacity to manage complex, high-stakes tasks under time pressure.
– Enthusiasm for innovation and continuous improvement in mechanical design and engineering practices.
