Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) seeks a Principal Software Engineer/ Sr Principal Software Engineer with hands-on experience in Software Engineering, Integration, and debugging for a fast-paced, growing, dynamic position supporting distributed simulation and training programs in Orlando, Florida. NGDS is an industry leader in developing, integrating, and sustaining complex simulator systems for the US Department of Defense. Our engineering teams perform a variety of tasks leading to the successful design, integration, test, deployment, and sustainment of complex modeling & simulation (M&S) systems, enabling a worldwide distributed mission training capability.
This position is currently contingent on program award and associated program award funding. Start dates are determined after funding confirmation.
Software Engineer Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop, document, test, and debug software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems.
- Apply appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle.
- Diagnose problems encountered during application integration among products and address fixes/enhancements according to prescribed program processes.
- Design and develop complex software using a variety of programming and scripting languages.
- Interface with program and customer personnel
In addition, the candidate must be a team player, able to work comfortably and effectively with company team members as well as program stakeholders and DoD contractor personnel using strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills. The candidate may be required to travel in support of customer interface, technical interchange meetings, on-site technical support, and event/exercise support.
Familiarity with simulation protocols, DMO standards, designing, developing, integrating, or analysis of virtual, constructive and/or distributed simulation systems, or the operational use of these simulation systems will help set the candidate up for success. The candidate will be working in an extremely dynamic and challenging environment on a day-to-day basis.
This requisition is open as a dual level opportunity. We will consider candidates at a level 3 and level 4:
Basic Qualifications:
- Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline and 5 years of related experience, or a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or a STEM PhD and 1 year of related experience
- Level 4: Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline and 8 years of related experience, or a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related experience, or a STEM PhD and 4 years of related experience
- US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
- Experience with DMO standards
- Experience in developing software in C++
- Experience in developing and debugging software in Linux and Windows environments
- Ability to comprehend, analyze and propose solutions to complex interoperability problems
- Experience developing, creating, and using network and analysis tools for troubleshooting and analyzing complex problems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active US DoD Secret Clearance
- Master of Science in Engineering or other STEM discipline
- Experience with distributed simulation protocols such as DIS
- LVC/DMO domain experience
- Experience in developing, integrating, or analysis of virtual, constructive and/or distributed simulation systems, or the operational use of these simulation systems.
- Experience writing, analyzing, and decomposing requirements
- General knowledge of industry standards and ensuring standards compliance
- Experience with use and operations of DoD Aircraft Systems such as IFF, Radar Systems, Radio Communications, Data Links, Munitions, Electronic Warfare, Aircraft Representation
- Demonstrate exemplary professionalism and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
- Demonstrate strong team-building and collaboration skills
- Experience in the design, implementation and delivery of sophisticated software systems in stages of the Software Development Life Cycle
Salary Range: $95,300.00 – $142,900.00Salary Range 2: $118,600.00 – $178,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
