York Space Systems was founded to radically improve spacecraft affordability and reliability, transforming, and enabling next-generation space mission operations worldwide. Today, York is one of the most innovative aerospace companies, specializing in end-to-end customer solutions and the rapid production of spacecraft platforms. York’s complete Space Segment Solution includes spacecraft production, payload integration, system integration & test, launch services, ground segment services, and mission operations, enabling customers to leverage York’s existing technology solutions to get to orbit rapidly and responsively.
York Space Systems is looking for a talented RF Engineer with 2-5+ years of experience.
York RF Engineers work closely with our technology partners for detailed assessment of link budgets, coverage capabilities, and target satellite capabilities. The ideal candidate looks for opportunities to support satellite manufacturing at scale through detailed and automated analyses of RF performance that enable proliferation and reuse of RF systems.
As an RF engineer at York, you will experience the full RF system life cycle from proposal to on-orbit commissioning, with a mixture of hands-on hardware activities and at the desk analysis activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as an organization-wide resource for low-level RF physics & communications theory expertise.
Ensure, through analysis, that core RF system products meet customer requirements and objectives.
Perform RF analysis to define vendor requirements for RF system hardware.
Support company manufacturing-at-scale objectives by means of enabling cost-effective and robust RF systems.
Verify and support RF link compatibility.
Support of on-orbit RF link anomaly resolution & commissioning activities
Verification/characterization of on-orbit RF link performance
Support RF vendor milestone reviews & non-conformance disposition
Support customer PDR, CDR, etc. milestone presentations.
Improve fidelity of existing RF analysis tools and implement new ones.
Perform antenna co-interference simulations using 3D EM software tools.
Support incremental improvement of core RF system products, balancing between manufacturability, low-cost, and next-generation market requirements.
Support RF AIT through non-conformance disposition, as-run review, and master test procedure/plan reviews.
Support and shape RF system CONOPs to enable the mission.
Support proposal work, estimate data throughputs, and support trades (cost/schedule/performance) at various levels of proposal maturities.
Support team peer-reviews and ensure team deliverables are held to a high standard.
May require some travel to support testing and launch.

Industry experience in RF Systems design & analysis, preferably for spacecraft applications
2-5+ years of experience in an RF Engineering discipline in the satellite industry
Ability to do a point-to-point space to ground link budget.
Understand space-to-ground and space-to-space communications architectures, with a firm understanding of analog (antenna, amplifiers, filters, etc.) and digital (SDR, modulation, coding) domains.
Familiarity with commonly used satellite modulation and coding standards, (CCSDS, DVB-S2, etc.)
Moderate familiarity with common RF test equipment (VNA, Spectrum Analyzer, etc.)
Moderate ability to script (Python, MATLAB, Shell, etc.) in both Windows & Linux environments
Desire to work in a fast-paced team environment and to mentor more junior engineers.
Ability to perform under deadline: accountable and self-driven.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants meeting one or more of the below criteria are preferred.
Systems engineering experience within the space industry, specifically for requirement decomposition & allocation to functional groups.
Experience doing coverage-based link budgets (Area of regard, etc.) where the space vehicle is providing service to multiple users within a region.
Experience with Ansys HFSS, particularly for evaluating antenna co-interference problems.
Experience with RF SIGINT including direction finding/geolocation algorithms & event detection.
Experience with cryptography for RF communication systems.
Experience with analysis of LPI/Jam-resistant RF waveforms
Active DoD TS/SCI Clearance
BENEFITS
