Northrop Grumman, Payload and Ground Systems Division (PGSD) is currently seeking a Sr. Director of Manufacturing and Operations to provide strategic leadership across the division in the areas of Manufacturing, Safety, Quality, Mission Assurance, Facility Management, and Efficiency. This location for this position is preferred to be in Baltimore, Maryland, but other major PGS locations will be considered.
Role Description & Responsibilities:
The Sr. Director of Manufacturing and Operations reports to the Vice President & General Manager for PGSD and will lead the strategic vision of Manufacturing and Operations for the division. In this role, the incumbent will have responsibility for division wide management of environmental, health & safety, manufacturing, facilities and maintenance, capacity planning, quality, mission assurance, and lean operations across the entire Payload and Ground Systems division.
Major Responsibilities:
Development and sustainment of a framework across division Operations organizations allowing some flexibility within each business unit but driving increased commonality and standardization
Oversight of manufacturing at all sites across the division. Act as main interface between PGSD and Mission Systems manufacturing.
Establish Non-Financial Metric (NFM) annual goals and drive achievement of NFM’s for each Business Units (Safety, Quality, On-time Delivery, etc.). Review metrics unaligned with targets and organize Return-to-Green plans to improve performance.
Provide leadership and guidance to BUs for implementation, improvement, and adherence to sound Safety and Quality practices and procedures.
Lead the PGSD Program Corrective Action Board (PCAB): Review all quality and mission assurance escapes and near misses, associated corrective action plans, and verify implementation.
Lead Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) efforts across PGSD: Main PGSD point of contact for all EH&S activities and issues. Provide leadership and guidance for BUs and individual sites. Coordinate with Sector staff for sector led EH&S efforts
Assess and validate capacity, both office space and manufacturing space to support current and future business needs
Conduct assessments to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, performance to standard work and least waste way and never-ending lean mentality throughout the organization.
Integral member of the division leadership team providing candid, respectful feedback and aligning to the goals and values of PGSD and NGC.
Experience Requirements:
Bachelor in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations, or similar and a minimum of 10 years related experience is required.
5-7 years of operations experience in a manufacturing related environment.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Top Secret clearance and SCI.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
Active/Current U.S. Government DoD Top Secret clearance and SCI.
Previous responsibility leading the day-to-day activities in space vehicle or space payload operating areas is highly preferred.
An advanced degree (Master of Science or Ph.D.) in engineering or business is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to lead a large and diverse group, establish clear expectations and inspire commitment, building teams, value diversity and put people first.
Demonstrated ability to improve organizational health through being aligned as an organization, executing effectively, genuinely and meaningfully connecting with employees and managing employees.
Ability to further continuous yet controlled improvements in organizations and processes and strengthening of workforce skills through application of lean thinking principles and tools.
Ability to formulate and execute complex project plans and initiatives.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills. Clear, demonstrated commitment to open communication and customer satisfaction.

Salary Range: $198,400.00 – $311,800.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
